A shocking incident has been reported in Dhaka’s Hatirjheel area where Abdur Rahim Ripon, an NCP-affiliated activist, was brutally attacked and looted allegedly by his father-in-law, uncle-in-law, and several influential local Awami League members. The victim sustained serious injuries and later alleged police inaction when he tried to file a complaint.

Details of the Attack
According to Ripon, the attack occurred on Saturday, August 9, 2025, shortly after lunch while he was resting at home. At that time, his wife and daughter had gone to the house of his father-in-law, Md. Jasim, and uncle Md. Russel (alias Gani).
Ripon claimed that his father-in-law, Md. Jasim—who has close ties with local Awami League politics—along with Russel and several others, orchestrated a pre-planned attack using his wife Rahima Begum to take away cash, gold ornaments, and important documents from his home. They allegedly also tricked Ripon’s mother into leaving the house and detained her elsewhere.
Subsequently, Jasim, along with Alamgir (a local Awami activist), Alauddin, and Mainuddin, stormed into Ripon’s residence and attacked him with the intent to kill. The assault left him with a severe injury to his left eye, a broken right arm, and blood clots in his head and neck.

Rescue and Immediate Action
Ripon claimed that the caretaker’s wife’s quick thinking saved his life. He contacted the Hatirjheel Police Station OC, and ASI Zahidul arrived on the scene, rescuing him and recovering the iron rod used in the attack. However, Ripon alleged that the weapon was never submitted to the police station.

Legal Proceedings and Police Conduct
When Ripon tried to file a case, he reportedly faced repeated police harassment and non-cooperation. Later, his wife allegedly filed a false domestic violence case against him.
Ripon stated, “ASI Zahidul told me that they planned to hang me from a fan and pass it off as suicide. They had already managed the OC Raju and the entire station.”
Despite multiple submissions of evidence, no action was taken against the prime accused, Md. Jasim.

Court Proceedings
When the other accused appeared in court, Hatirjheel police allegedly downgraded the charges to make the case bailable, enabling them to easily secure bail.
However, when Ripon personally appeared in court on September 3 with proof, the court ordered the arrest of the main accused.
Later, on September 8, while Ripon appeared in court for the domestic violence case, he himself was arrested, and all his submitted evidence was removed—while the main accused was granted bail.
On September 16, 2025, Ripon filed a fresh petition against the prime accused. The court then ordered him to submit a full description and relevant documents, which Ripon promptly did. The matter remains under judicial observation.

Appeal for Higher Intervention
Seeking justice, Ripon filed a complaint with the Tejgaon DC office, submitting audio recordings of ASI Zahidul’s threats. The ADC reportedly ordered Zahidul’s suspension, but Ripon later learned that Zahidul was merely transferred, not suspended.

Ongoing Threats and Intimidation
Ripon continues to face threats and intimidation. On September 19 at 1:58 AM, he received an anonymous text message stating:
“You have 24 hours. Withdraw the case immediately and leave the area, or I’ll spend one bullet on you.”

Conclusion
Although the case remains active, Ripon alleges that an influential political figure—formerly with the Awami League but now under BNP’s protection—is shielding the accused, preventing fair justice.
Ripon himself spent five days in jail due to the false case filed against him.
He now lives in constant fear for his safety and that of his family.

Ripon claims to possess all relevant evidence, including video footage of the incident and audio recordings of ASI Zahidul’s threats, securely preserved in his custody.
