There will be a movement like in July to implement the referendum verdict: Opposition leader
Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Opposition Leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has threatened to launch a mass movement similar to the July uprising if the referendum verdict is not reflected in constitutional reforms.
Speaking at a rally in South Keraniganj on Friday, April 3, he accused the BNP of betraying its pre-election commitment to a referendum after securing a two-thirds majority in Parliament.
Dr. Rahman argued that the will of the people expressed through a referendum holds supreme authority over the constitution and warned that ignoring this mandate marks the beginning of new fascism.
Reaffirming the commitment of the 11-party alliance to establishing public rights, he called for unity against "oppression" and announced that their first formal protest program would commence in Dhaka the following day.
