Ex-CJ ABM Khairul Haque arrested

Former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque has been arrested. A team from the Detective Branch (DB) picked him up from his Dhanmondi residence around 8:00 am on Thursday.

DB Joint Commissioner Mohammad Nasirul Islam confirmed the arrest to reporters.

“We detained former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque from his Dhanmondi home shortly after 8:00 am. He is being taken to the DB office, and necessary legal action will follow,” he said.

Justice Khairul Haque served as the 19th Chief Justice of Bangladesh. He was sworn in on 30 September 2010 and retired on 17 May 2011 upon reaching the age of 67.

Recently, the Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum held a press conference demanding his arrest and trial, branding him as “the chief architect of the destruction of the country’s judiciary and democracy.”
