Allegations of partiality and corruption against Dhaka's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate

A government official has filed a written complaint with the Registrar General of the Supreme Court over allegations of judicial irregularities and influence peddling at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka.

In the charge sheet, the applicant stated that he is the plaintiff in CR Case No. 163/2025 (Sher Bangla Nagar). He previously served as Deputy Director in a project of the Directorate of Technical Education.

The written complaint states that while performing his duties, two senior officials of the project wrongfully removed him and later tarnished his professional reputation through false and baseless information. He filed a defamation case in court over this incident.

The complaint further states that important evidence and testimony were ignored in the investigation process of the defamation case and there were inconsistencies and bias in the investigation.

It is also claimed that one of the accused in the case, Md. Abdur Rahim, met Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Mustafizur Rahman illegally and influenced him to dismiss the case.

The applicant further stated that the truth of this incident could be revealed if the CCTV footage of the court premises on the relevant day is preserved and examined. In addition, the complaint also states that the case was dismissed without proper verification and interrogation of evidence.

It has also been expressed that there may be large financial transactions or illegal influence behind the dismissal of the said defamation case. The statement of the concerned judge or the accused has not been received till date.

The petitioner has requested the Registrar General of the Supreme Court to order an impartial investigation, preserve CCTV footage, and take necessary legal action.
