Milestone students protest with 6-point demand

Hundreds of students gathered at the roundabout in front of Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, starting at 10 am on Tuesday.

The area quickly filled with chants and protests, as grief-stricken students demanded justice following Monday’s deadly Air Force plane crash on their campus.

Holding banners that read "We don’t want justice, we want our children’s bodies" and "We demand an accurate count of the deceased," students staged a sit-in at the roundabout, blocking the road. Despite repeated requests from the police to disperse, the students continued their peaceful demonstration.

"We do not want violence," said one of the protesting students. "But we must speak out against injustice. Such a massive disaster has taken place—yet no one is taking responsibility, no action has been taken. We demand accountability."

The students issued a 6-point list of demands:

Publication of the names and addresses of the deceased
An accurate list of the injured
An unconditional apology for the mistreatment of teachers
Compensation for the victims and their families
Cancellation of all risky aircraft
Reform of the pilot training process
The tragic incident occurred around 1 PM on Monday, July 21, when a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into a building of Milestone School and College in Uttara. The crash caused an immediate fire both in the aircraft and the school building. The building was occupied by numerous schoolchildren, many of whom were killed or injured.

Following the crash, the Fire Service began rescue operations, joined by eight units from Uttara and nearby areas. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Army later joined the efforts. Victims were transported to hospitals via Bangladesh Air Force helicopters.

As of the latest update at 8 AM on Tuesday, the death toll from the crash has risen to 27, and at least 78 people remain hospitalized across various facilities.
