DMP identifies 37 Dhaka polling centres as risky, 1614 as important

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali has identified 37 polling centres as vulnerable and 1,614 centres as important in the capital ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election and the Referendum.

DMP announced enhanced security measures at those locations in a notification published on Monday.

Seven police officers would be deployed at each of the 37 high-risk centres, he said.

The DMP commissioner made the disclosure while speaking at a press conference titled “Security plans adopted by DMP for the election and referendum” at the DMP Media Centre on Monday afternoon.

Sajjat Ali added that body cameras would also be used at these locations.

According to the DMP commissioner, a total of 1,614 polling centres in Dhaka have been classified as important. Of these, the 37 vulnerable centres will receive the highest level of security, while four police officers will be deployed at each of the remaining important centres.

In addition, three police officers will be stationed at each of the 517 general polling centres across the capital.

Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali said around 25,000 DMP personnel have been given training regarding election duties. To deal with any emergency situation, the DMP’s Special Reserve Force, Bomb Disposal Unit and Dog Squad will also remain on standby during the polls.
