HC Judges Naima Haider, Mamnoon Rahman resign

The Supreme Court’s High Court (HC) Division judges Justice Naima Haider and Justice Mamnoon Rahman have stood down.

The information was confirmed in a press release signed by Md. Shafiqul Islam, public relations officer of the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division.

Their letters of resignation have been forwarded to the president, notice said.

Justice Mamnoon sent his resignation letter to the president via the chief justice in an email dated Feb 2, while Justice Naima Haider tendered her resignation in person on February 5, expressing their intention to resign from their posts.

Both Justice submitted their resignation letters to the President through the Chief Justice. The Supreme Court has since forwarded both resignation letters to the President.

Justice Mamnoon earned his LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Dhaka, the notice said. He was enrolled as a lawyer in the District Court on Nov 26, 1989, in the High Court Division on May 29, 1990, and in the Appellate Division on Oct 25, 2001.

He became an additional judge of the HC on Aug 23, 2004, and was appointed as a permanent judge of the same division on Aug 23, 2006.

Justice Naima, on the other hand, obtained an LLM and PhD from Columbia University after completing LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Dhaka.

She also pursued studies at the University of Oxford, University of California, Berkeley, and the University of London.

In 1989, she was enrolled as a lawyer in the Judges’ Court. She became a lawyer in the High Court in 1993 and in the Appellate Division in 2004. She was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court in 2009 and became a permanent judge in 2011.
