Vijay took the oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu
In a historic turning point for Tamil Nadu, actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay took the oath as Chief Minister on Sunday morning, May 10, 2026, at Chennai's Nehru Stadium.
This follows days of intense negotiations and multiple meetings with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar. Although his party, TVK, won 108 seats, Vijay successfully secured a 120-seat coalition with support from the Congress, Left parties (CPI and CPI-M), VCK, and IUML.
This marks the first time in nearly 60 years that a party other than the DMK or AIADMK has led the state government. Vijay now faces the challenge of proving his majority in a floor test mandated by the Governor by May 13.
