At least 70 people are missing after a boat carrying 105 migrants capsized in the Mediterranean Sea near the Bouri oil field.
According to a report by The New York Times on Monday, April 6, 2026, the vessel departed from Tadjoura, Libya, before being overwhelmed by severe weather and high waves.
The Italian Coast Guard successfully rescued 32 men—identified as nationals of Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Egypt—and recovered two bodies, transporting them to Lampedusa.
With the assistance of Sea-Watch and Mediterranea Saving Humans, search efforts continue for the remaining passengers, including women and children.
This tragedy underscores the extreme risks of this migration route, where the UN reports at least 725 disappearances since the beginning of 2026.
