On Sunday, April 5, 2026, Iranian authorities executed two individuals, Mohammad Amin Biglari and Shahin Vahidiparast, for their alleged involvement in an attack on a sensitive military installation during the nationwide anti-government protests last January.
According to the semi-official Fars News Agency, the two were labeled as "enemy agents" and convicted of attempting to seize an armory at a key military base in Tehran during the unrest, which escalated from economic grievances into a major challenge to the Islamic Republic's leadership.
The executions follow a bloody period of conflict that has claimed thousands of lives since the start of the year, marking one of the most significant upheavals since the 1979 Revolution.
International human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, have expressed grave concern over these developments, especially as other detainees remain on death row facing similar fates.
